There are an increasing number of disputes with an international element, concerning the status of persons, family law, contractual law or legal liability and which require more and more frequently that judges determine the governing law.

At the same time, international legal instruments are proliferating, including bilateral, international, community and European standards, European and community jurisprudence, and internal rules on conflicts of law.

The session’s objective is to address the different areas relevant to conflicts of law and to give judges methodological tools that will facilitate their search for the elements of appropriate solutions for the situations submitted to them.

Drawing on a legal analysis of the fundamental principles at issue, the presentations of judges and academics, expert in these matters, will allow enrich participant thinking and discussion and offer an occasion for sharing their questions.
