E-learning on the fight against discrimination
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) regional office in Helsinki has developed the “Judges Online” project with the objective of building the capacity of the judiciary in the area of anti-discrimination law through e-learning thanks to funding from the European Commission, the Ministry of Justice of Finland and the Nordic Council of Ministers.
The tool is available online (http://www.iom.fi/elearning) in English, Finnish and Latvian, with essential reading material also available in Estonian. Easy to use, it can be accessed free of charge and without prior registration.
The e-learning tool enables the user to become familiar with the theory and practice of the fight against all forms of discrimination i.e. based on ethnic origin, religion, beliefs, disability, age, gender or sexual orientation. It is divided into three modules: two on international and European law, aimed at all members of the judiciary in EU countries, and one on specific anti-discrimination legislation in Estonia, Finland and Latvia, targeted more particularly at judges and prosecutors from these countries. It provides an effective and innovative means of reinforcing the skills of judges and prosecutors and to promote the application of the law in a field that is technically complex but essential for the proper functioning of our democracies.
