ICLN Annual Meeting

The International Criminal Law Network (ICLN) presents on 12 December 2008 its 7th Annual Meeting, in The Hague's World Forum. The Dutch Minister of Justice, Mr. Ernst Hirsch Ballin, will open the ICLN annual meeting on The Future of European Criminal Law - Concrete perspectives with or without the Lisbon Treaty.

This conference is a one-day specialized meeting to discuss developments in the area of European security and justice. It is imperative that there is continuous cooperation between member states, despite the consequences of (non-) ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. The day will include plenary presentations by renowned speakers and thematic plenary sessions will follow.

The meeting aims to address key questions relating to the implementation of police and judicial procedures, the maintenance of state security while implementing the Treaty's human rights provisions, specific implications for state cooperation and cooperation with (and between) Europol and Eurojust, effective implementation of existing instruments, and the role of the European Public Prosecutor in European criminal law. The meeting will seek answers to these and other related questions.
